"In the 3 1/2 years since I first came to Chuan Wu Kung Fu Institute, I have had a lot of fun, attained 7 goals, challenged myself mentally and physically, have confidence in my ability to defend myself, learned 40 pieces of material, made lots of friends, developed more stamina as well as a better body, learned lots of interesting ancient Chinese history, learned how to use 14 Chinese weapons, and earned a Black belt.
This school is awesome!"

"Chuan Wu Kung Fu Institute is a fabulous place to learn Kung Fu for the entire family. Master David and his excellent staff are great teachers and wonderful role models. All of the instructors (and the other students) are very supportive. I personally love the balance that is offered at Chuan Wu. The combined internal and external programs teach self defense, control, and balance, with a very wide range of traditional Kung Fu styles, forms and weapons. It's a great way to learn martial arts, get in shape, and manage stress. Chuan Wu's program for children is outstanding. It's very impressive how quickly the program teaches children self confidence, discipline and focus all the while having lots of fun :-)"

"I originally decided to study Kung Fu because I was unfulfilled by going to the Gym and simply lifting weights. What I found at the Chuan Wu Kung Fu Institute is a program that challenges me, Physically, Mentally and Spiritually. I am a 51 year old professional that initially believed I did not have what it would take to progress through the ranks of this wonderful art. But due to the dedication and encouragement of the Master Instructors I have reach far beyond what I thought I was capable of. I have come to know a confidence that I never thought possible. The journey begins with the first step, Take that Step. You won't regret it."

"At first I was hesitant about taking up martial arts since I’m not physically fit or well-coordinated when it comes to physical activities or sports. After some encouragement from my significant other, I decided to enroll at Chuan Wu Kung Fu Institute and it has been one of the best decisions I have made to improve my health. After seven months of learning both the internal and external kung fu systems here at Chuan Wu, I noticed my memory, balance, strength, energy, coordination and flexibility has improved. I am pleasantly surprised that I have developed an interest in martial arts since I tend to shy away from physical activities. Master David and the instructors at Chuan Wu are responsible for my newly found interest in martial arts because they create an atmosphere that promotes a fun and exciting “can do” environment. As a beginner, it was challenging and frustrating to learn, remember, and execute certain moves and forms correctly. However, I was able to learn the material because the instructors provided me constant encouragement, positive feedback, clear instructions, and effective demonstrations to help me perform better. Chuan Wu is a wonderful school to learn martial arts because Master David and his family are knowledgeable and passionate in their craft and are skilled practitioners themselves. They provide a safe, warm, and organized environment where respect and integrity for martial arts and each other are practiced every day. I am grateful to Master David and the instructors here for teaching me valuable skills that improved my physical and mental health as well as my quality of life."

"I have wanted to learn martial art for a very long time. When I was growing up, my parents did not consider taking me to any martial art training. Mostly because they never thought much about it and also because they could not afford it. So it was really up to me to make the choice and the commitment when the time was right. Well, when is the good time in life to do something right? Military service, years of college, working... had their way of tying me up. I had also been in 4 auto accidents, which left a lot of damage on my neck, shoulders and lower back. I have received hundreds of chiropractic, massage and acupuncture treatments over the years that only gave me temporary relief. I knew that I needed to strengthen my body on my own. I was exercising and going to the gym regularly, but it became routine and boring, and the results were minimal. When I couldn't tolerate the pain any longer, I began to look for a martial art school.
When I came to Chuan Wu Kung Fu Institute to learn more about their program, Sifu David listened to my needs and explained to me how everything works at the school and the benefits. I went home, thought it through, came back and signed up, a decision I’m glad I made.
I have been practicing at the school for about 8 months now, and I notice major changes. Physically, I have more stamina and endurance. My legs are much stronger. My lower back pain has been reduced substantially. My neck and shoulders are also getting better. To improve the effectiveness of training and to reduce the impact on the body during training, I get some massages when I can afford the time, for added benefits. Most importantly, my mind has been calmer. I feel more balanced and at ease. My speech also improves, which is surprising, mostly due to having a more peaceful mind. I used to talk very fast, zipping through words. But now I can take more time to breathe and speak.
I like the training pace, and the wide variety of martial art materials taught at the school. I never thought that I would be able to command weapons like staff, sword and nun chucks without hurting myself. Well, I did play with the Wii's nun chucks for a year without hitting my friends or the TV but I don't think that counts. I enjoy learning external forms (good old fighting stuff) and internal forms (think taichi and qigong) because they complement each other well, making the training very balanced. The instructors are very caring, and they pay a lot of attention to the students. They make sure that I practice safely which is very importantly to me because I already have enough injuries and I don't need new ones. Other practitioners are very friendly and helpful. What really surprised me when I first joined the school is how diverse the student body is in term of age and ethnicity. I never pictured seeing folks in their 60's practicing martial art. It's adorable to see 5 year olds in the kid's class as well. I wish I started learning kung fu when I was that young. I could be a master by now at the age of 32. My health has improved greatly, and I'm sure the martial art skills will come in handy one day.
The twist to all this is, now my mom is in the Taichi program too."

"Despite coming to Chuan Wu with some experience in exercise and philosophy, I quickly realized that I had plenty of room for improvement. In addition to greatly improving my overall physique, my training has instilled within me a strong sense of discipline, allowing me to tap into a deep reservoir of calmness and resolve that I was previously unaware of. Where I once felt misunderstood for my seriousness and devotion to philosophical principles, I now find these traits are encouraged and even rewarded within the school's teachings.
I have grown close to my instructors, as well as my fellow students; the relationship extending from compatriotism to something deeper, almost familial. My respect for each of them is recognized and returned in equal measure. I feel as though I genuinely belong here.”

“Many years ago, in my 20's and 30's, I rose to the rank of 4th degree black belt in another system. During that earlier training, I sensed that something was missing from my training, some vital element. That feeling never left me and I eventually fell away from training. Many years later, when I was 58, I found the Chuan Wu Kung Fu School and instinctively recognized what I had missed. Specifically, what I found:
- Consistent, patient, non-distracted and enthusiastic instruction by Sifu David and the other instructors
- A caring and supportive family like atmosphere
- A deep, traditional system of with the ability to grow into your full potential
- Affordable fees, sufficient hours available for training
In summary, I found a genuine and deeply rooted system of training with superb, caring and realistic instructors. I am grateful to Sifu David and his hand picked teachers for the opportunity to train with them for self-defense, health promotion and the beauty of the arts.”

“We would like to take the opportunity of our 2nd anniversary with Chuan Wu Kung Fu Institute to convey a big "THANK YOU". Reminiscing to the first day we enrolled Jada {who was 5} and myself {who was over 50}, we never thought we would last this long. On the contrary, we love the school and the camaraderie. The Sifus are all highly skilled, with a wealth of material and knowledge.
We introduced some of Jada's friends to the school, and they also express the same feelings: they enjoy the exercises and the lessons… We have accomplished so much in 2 years time and we hope to go on forever. My husband and I are also participating in our once-a-week Tai chi For Health. We could not wait for our night to come in and work our old bones out…
We are so glad we found Chuan Wu Kung Fu Institute. We strongly recommend the school for people of all ages…”

“My son's extreme shyness and low self-esteem made everything difficult for us. No ordinary approach worked.
Of course, it was not his decision at all to join Chuan Wu. I gave him no choice when I instinctively felt at the first visit that this was the right place for him.
It's been a little over two years since then. My son, who just turned 10, is now practicing with adults, as a brown belt.
It has been no easy path but I'm simply glad that I didn't give up, with a belief that Chuan Wu would get his potential strength out. Nothing has made me more proud, as a parent, than this achievement of his.
Still a long journey awaits us, but I'm looking forward to watching my son grow up to be an adult at Chuan Wu. It is a place for your kids to grow.”
- Makiko F.
“I looked closely before I signed my children up for lessons, and joined myself. Other places seemed "plasticky" and formulaic. This school is safe, serious and authentic.

"The comprehensive programs Chuan Wu Kung Fu Institute offers has provided me the best balance one can have within the world of Traditional Chinese Kung Fu. The depth of material CWKFI offers has helped me to strengthen my body and mind without the competitive environment prevalent in many Martial Art Schools. My overall health and memory has improved, and as long as I continue my training, I'm convinced, I'll reach a ripe old age strong and in good health."

“...We have investigated martial arts schools from Sacramento to Los Angeles, and none can compare with the Chuan Wu School. Three of our family members are enrolled in various programs:
- Our granddaughter (7 years old and a Blue Sash) is attending the Kids Program …
- Grandma (55 years old and a Green Sash) is in the Integrated Kung Fu and the Tai Chi for HEALTH Programs …
- Grandpa (67 years old and a White Sash) is in the Tai Chi for HEALTH Program…
The Chuan Wu Kung Fu instructors are all Black Belts and they are outstanding… They are extremely patient with all students at all levels. We strongly recommend Chuan Wu Kung Fu for people of all ages and all stages. Chuan Wu has something for everyone.”

“Chuan Wu Kung Fu school has helped me overcome my physical challenges, improving my physical condition and mental condition. Over the past few years my family and I have been attending the school and have grown in skills and abilities that are beneficial to our lives and health. The children’s program has been excellent to develop my children’s abilities, endurance and self confidence. The instructors are excellent and patient with each student. The programs are valuable and affordable. Thank You!”

“I have just joined Chuan Wu Kung Fu institute and like it very much. You not only learn self-defense but also discipline, respect and relaxation. You get a lot of personal attention during class in order to make sure you are using the correct form. I enjoy and look forward to going to class every day.”
- Tsewang S.
"Since I began my training at Chuan Wu, my life has changed in a positive way that I didn't think I could ever do. I have gained tremendous amount of physical skill as well as the self-confidence and discipline I was looking for. I love training at Chuan Wu. It keeps me active and healthy. ”

"When I signed up I mentioned that I am not quick to learn things like martial arts forms. I was told that everyone learns at his own pace. Ever since, my sluggish learning has been accomodated--the patience of the instructors is real. In fact, I seem to perceive genuine delight on the part of instructors when I manage to learn something new.
The workouts provide a good antidote to my frantic life beyond the school. I can be feeling down when I come to school and often experience a significant positive mood altering during the classes. I'm sure it has everything to do with the benefits of hard exercise plus the learning of a martial art that has broad history and lore in addition to a bewildering catalog of forms.
Finally, it is clear that people within this school treat each other better than people in the general population. The school and its instructors practice and model respect constantly and the student body takes the cue."

1. Balance of my mind, my emotions (positive/negative) with my phsycial being;
2. A skill that I can use for self-defense;
3. Improvement in mobility, endurance and my overall health;
4. A traditional Kung Fu school that focuses more on the art of Kung Fu comprehensively without the competition.
After visiting, observing and meeing with owners of various Kung Fu schools, I learned that CHUAN WU KUNG FU INSTITUTE would be able to provide the guidance, the skills and the knowledge to help me meet my objectives. It has been nine months attending CWKF and I have already started the process in obtaining my personal goals and have even received more than I what I expected.
The sifus and masters - Master David, Master Oanh, Master Katherine, Sifu Noel, Lao Shi Robert and the other instructors are very patient and have years of experience. They make this experience a successful one."
